Ignis 2- An Ignatian Spirituality Program
This week we were pleased to be able to offer ten of our staff the opportunity to take part in the Ignis 2 Ignatian Spirituality Program, the follow on from Ignis 1 which is the introductory program to familiarise staff with the basis of Ignatian Spirituality and the history and work of the Jesuits. Staff usually have to travel to Brisbane to undertake these programs, however, as many of our staff had completed the Ignis 1, we were able to offer Ignis 2 in Hervey Bay.

We were fortunate to have secured Martin Scroope from the Canisius Centre of Ignatian Spirituality in Sydney to deliver this program. Martin is no stranger to Xavier having worked with our staff since 2003. We also thank Brendan McDonald, Xavier’s Director of Ignatian Spirituality and accredited facilitator for Ignis 1, for his work in ensuring we continue to develop and deepen our expertise in this area.

Kondari Mission Week Assembly
We recognised many wonderful activities at last week’s Assembly which was part of our Kondari Mission Week. A highlight however, the performance by our year 3 students of the the pieces they performed at recent Eisteddfod. We thank Mr. Peter DeWaard, Mrs Cassie Wilson and Mrs Karen Stringer.

Xavier Band Camp
We thank the following staff for the work and effort they put into running the annual Xavier Band Camp – Mr. Paul Damms, Ms. Shannon McDuff, Mrs. Lynette McLean and Ms. Jenny Conlon. They visited a number of schools and performed for various groups around Brisbane. Experiences such as this, not only give the students the opportunity to showcase their skills, but also provides time to practise together and develop as a performing band.

Visit by BCE Deputy Director, Learning & Teaching
We were pleased to host Mr. Doug Ashleigh, BCE Deputy Director, for morning tea and a chance to meet with staff on Monday. Doug commenced in his position has Deputy Director at the start of this year and hails from Sydney Catholic Education.  Doug made a brief presentation to Mrs Loretta Swann for her award in the ‘Excellence in Teaching’ awards earlier this year. Mrs Swann was on leave when this was announced so was not able to accept her award at the ceremony. Doug enjoyed a tour of our college facilities and was impressed with both the quality of our buildings and resources, also making comment on the work ethic displayed by our students.

Hervey Bay District Athletics
Congratulations to our College Athletics team for their excellent effort at the Hervey Bay District athletics Carnival this week. Once again Xavier are Hervey Bay Athletics Champions and maintained our strangle hold on this trophy since

It is also yet another clean sweep with Xavier 2016 Champions in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Indeed, Xavier has been undefeated in all three carnivals since 2009. More information next week.
