 NAIDOC Week 2016

On Wednesday we held a Liturgy and Whole School Assembly to celebrate NAIDOC Week.  NAIDOC Week (which is held nationally during the school holidays) gives all Australians a chance to embrace and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.  Aunty Jan Williams opened the assembly with a Welcome to Country which was followed by the welcome dance performed by a group of young Butchulla dancers.

After the Liturgy a morning tea for parents and community members was hosted by Indigenous Student Support Coordinator – Kerry-Ann Bates. Continuing on from these events the students will have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities during Week 3 of this term to further their understanding of this year’s NAIDOC theme which is, Songlines: The Living Narrative of our Nation.
