COLLEGE LEADERSHIP

The 2016 Senior Celebration Evening highlighted those students in our College community who had demonstrated the highest level of application, effort, and achievement in their studies and co-curricular endeavours. Credit was also given to students in recognition of their community and spiritual involvement.

Students, parents, staff and distinguished invited guests enjoyed pre-ceremony art displays, a Film & Television showreel and performances by the Strings Ensemble Band that showcased the talent of Xavier students. The College Choir, Drama showreel and Concert Band also impressed with their performances throughout the evening.

As has become customary, the ‘Magis Medal’ was awarded, however this year saw two very deserving recipients in Mr Brian Forbes and Mr Kerry Swann for their outstanding contributions to the College.

FROM THE APRES

GRANDPARENTS DAY
Last Friday, we celebrated the wonderful gift of ‘Grandparents’ in a Junior School liturgy. We acknowledge the important nurturing role that grandparents play in their grandchildren’s lives each day. Grandparents are a valuable and vital resource in our communities and they provide the children of our school with love and stability. There is no doubting the tremendous influence you as grandparents have over the students of our school!  Thank you to all our guests who were able to make the event and stay on for a morning tea. Mr Forbes even made a special guest appearance on the day!  Special thanks to all of the staff involved - it was another wonderful team effort!

ALL SAINTS DAY AND ALL SOULS DAY
Next Tuesday we commemorate All Saints Day and on Wednesday is the Commemoration of all the faithful departed (All Souls Day).

Solemnity of All Saints
All Saints day is primarily celebrated in the Catholic Church, but it is also celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Anglican Church and a few other denominations of Christianity. All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation.

The Commemoration of all faithful departed (All Souls Day)
November is the month for remembering those who have died. The Church has encouraged prayer for the dead from the earliest times as an act of Christian charity.  All Souls Day is not a holy day of obligation.

Prayer
Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord,
let perpetual light shine on them.
Amen.

The Junior Swimming Carnival P-7 (Year 7s born 2004) is on Friday, 28th October at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre. A full day of events is planned for our students and parents are very welcome to join us on the day. We look forward to an enjoyable day for our younger students, full of Xavier team spirit!

FIRST 11 CRICKET
The First 11 Cricket team travelled to Maroochydore, last Monday to compete in the South Queensland School Cricket semi-finals. Xavier’s first game was against Brisbane GPS champion school, Ipswich Grammar. Xavier was able to bat out their 20 allocated overs, but were only able to make 66 runs with Paddy Stewart top scoring on 17runs. Unfortunately, 66 runs was not enough against the well drilled Ipswich Grammar side with them chasing the total down inside 10 Overs. The team then faced All Saints, Gold Coast in the battle for 3rd and 4th. The teamed bowled and fielded well and All Saints were able to post a formable score of 139 runs off their 20 Overs. Xavier got off to a great start with Brad Andersen (60) and Nic Kelsey (23) posting a 57 run opening partnership, followed by Brad and Cooper Climo (39) a 62 run partnership to put Xavier in the box seat. To help continue this great start saw one of our younger year 7 students Isaac Kelsey hitting the winning runs off the 4th last ball of the innings, to take the win. The team should be congratulated on their attitude and performaces during the day. Xavier Catholic College can now lay claim to being the 3rd best Cricketing School in South Queensland. Congratulations to the team.
