 Queensland All Schools Touch

The Queensland All Schools Touch carnival held at White’s Hill in Brisbane, Week one this term has continued to grow each year and 2015 was no exception. 350+ students competed across 7 divisions. 1200 games were played across the 5 days of carnival (8am-8pm), as well as a number of Brisbane schools playing some games prior to the carnival.
Six Xavier teams travelled down to take on the best teams in Queensland.

13 Girls (Mandy Brindell)
Our under13 Girls team have trained so hard all year and went into the All Schools competition with a great attitude. Day One bought a tough 0-1 loss to start with as the girls got rid of some nerves, to take their next game out with a great 7-0 win. Day Two and Three bought a mixture of wins and losses with incredible strength, team work and encouragement by all players. The girls made themselves, their families and their schools proud with their guts and determination and just missed out on a place in the finals.

13 Boys (Paul Barker)
The 13 Boys fought hard and played exceptionally well in the Brisbane All Schools competition and despite some tough opposition played extremely well but did not make any finals here. In their rounds of pool games they continued to improve as they went, starting with four close loses and then finishing the competition with a draw and then a win for their final game. Well done boys, it was a great season and they should all be very proud of their efforts. They showed real courage and determination and it was great to see them develop as a team.

15 Boys (Nathan Milne)
The 15 Boys team had 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, to finish 3rd in their pool. Both Ben Lineburg and Sam Thompson were outstanding in the middle, with Nathan Robinson showing great improvement in the link position. Both James Clarry and Griffin Lowe made brilliant contributions on the wing, both scoring tries and diffusing attacking raids when in defence. The top try scorer at this competition was Sam Thompson with 7 tries. It has been a pleasure to coach this team for the 2015 season and all boys are to be congratulated on their dedication to a long season involving lots of early morning training sessions. A huge thank you to the parents of the boys for their on-going support. It was a fantastic season with terrific results.

15 Girls (Tracey Moore)
Our 15 Girls travelled to Brisbane slightly under strength, missing two key players due to injury. Despite this set back the girls went in to the carnival in high spirits and competed very well against tough opposition. We finished with 3 wins and 3 losses. Chloe McIlwain and Lauren Sankey tied for ‘Players Player’, voted on by their team mates. One of the most pleasing aspects at the carnival for me as coach was that all the girls registered points in the player voting in one or more of the six games played, which highlighted true team effort. A special thanks to Taylah King and Rosie Baumann, who due to injury were unable to compete at Qld All Schools yet supported their team mates throughout the carnival.

Open Mixed (Coach: Brad Mitchell. Assistant coaches: Mick Tyrrell and Ben Boswell)
The two Open Mixed sides had mixed success at the carnival. The Open Mixed 1 side, known as Bert, came away with 4 wins, a draw and 2 losses and just missed out on going through to the final 16. Throughout the carnival the team played some outstanding touch and became stronger and stronger as the carnival progress. The Open Mixed 2 team, known as Ernie, had several close loses but we were unfortunate not to register a win at the carnival. The team however continued to try no matter what the score. Thank you for both teams for their dedication to training and the fun way in which they approached the game.

As always, a special thanks must go to the great band of parents who supported our teams in Brisbane. Thanks you also for assisting in the preparation of the teams, transporting kids to the early morning trainings and filling in numerous pieces of paperwork. Your support is much appreciated.
