 State Rugby Union

The Queensland schools U15 state rugby union titles were held last week at Ipswich and Xavier was proudly represented by two of our rising rugby stars. Griffin Lowe and Sam Gale gained selection in the Wide Bay team 15 aside team following on from their strong winning form at the FCAC 7's.  These U15 titles are always a hard fought affair with the metropolitan teams being able to call on players from the GPS schools such as Nudgee and TSS, while Wide Bay draws players across a very large area making it harder to train as a team.  Despite this, the Wide Bay team acquitted themselves well throughout the championships and Griffin and Sam were acknowledged as two of their best performers. Griffin played as halfback and five eight and despite giving away a huge height advantage he still played exceptionally well directing play behind a pack often outsized by their opposition. Sam played in the centers and with his genuine speed proved elusive and tough to pull down. The Wide Bay team ended their campaign down the ladder, however they finished very strongly on Sunday with a win over Northern team in which both boys had a leading hand. Both Griffin and Sam have taken a lot from the experience and will no doubt be playing in future Wide Bay teams given their love of the game and fantastic rugby ability.

Congratulations boys and very well done.
