Success at Somerset Novella Writing Competition

Last year Madi Piddington (Year 10) entered the prestigious Somerset Novella Writing Competition. She wrote a story of about 8000 words titled “A Silence of the Worst Kind” which was about cancer. Yesterday she became Queensland’s State Finalist and is 1 of 3 state winners nationwide. She has won a cash prize and her manuscript will receive personal advice from Penguin Publishing Group. Additionally Madi will have the opportunity to attend the events of the Somerset Celebration of Literature Festival on the Gold Coast over three inspiring days. The festival hosts over 20 acclaimed authors from around Australia who will hold interactive session and workshops for both children and adults. The festival attracts crowds of about 15 000 each year and one of the highlights of the event is the announcement of the national winner. Good luck to Madi and congratulations on this wonderful achievement.
