The 2013 Xavier Maths Challenge Teams

On Wednesday, 21st August, Miss Murtagh and Mr Burke had the pleasure of taking two teams to the annual Maths Team Challenge held at Sandy Strait State School.
The teams consisted of 5 students each from Year 6 and Year 7. What an enthusiastic and motivated group! There was no hesitation in giving up lunch times in preparation for the challenge ahead. Practise questions were attacked with gusto and team strategies discussed!
It was a brilliantly run day organised by Mrs Karlee Franz and her team from Sandy Strait State School. 38 teams of like-minded mathematicians from schools around the district turned up to take on the challenge.
The competition was broken into 2 events: a Team Event which consisted of 12 questions with a time limit of 45 minutes and a Relay Event consisting of 20 questions over an hour where students worked in pairs to answer questions.
A mighty congratulations to the students involved. You should be very proud of the results gained, the skills shown working in a team and in the way you represented Xavier Catholic College so well.
The students chosen for the Challenge were Colin Kennedy, Isaac Bagshaw, Harry Railz, Matthew Bauer, Lydia White, Max Toohey, Brendan Vagne, Chelsea Neck , Arlen Sheehan  and Maddy McGowan. Also a big thank you to Jack Buckley (Year 7) for being our “assistant coach”  in the lead up to the day.
