Touch Football - Sunshine Coast All-Schools

On Sunday 24th July, Xavier sent 6 teams to compete at the Sunny Coast All-Schools touch football competition and finished the day with 2 teams making it to the semi-final stage. This competition forms an important part of teams’ preparation for the QLD All-Schools competition held at Brisbane in October. Overall, students played some excellent touch football with pleasing results and represented the College with distinction, even giving a stirring rendition of the College War Cry at the end of the day. Thank you to the coaches: Tracey Moore & Blaire Roffey (13 Girls), Paul Barker (13 Boys), Belinda France (15 Girls), Nathan Milne (15 Boys) and Bradley Mitchell (Open Mixed Blue and White). A very special thank you to Mrs Jodie Houliston who referred.

13 Girls:
The 13 Girls jumped out of the blocks for their first 2 games with very convincing wins against Beerwah and Sienna College. We then had losses to St Columbans and Chancellor (these 2 teams eventually met in the Grand Final). The girls are to be congratulated on their efforts at the carnival. Their ball handling skills were fantastic as they spread the ball wide and stretched the oppositions defence, and their team spirit was second to none.  Well done to Brooke Harvey who was the ‘Players Player’ for the carnival.

15 Girls:
A fantastic effort from all girls at the Sunny Coast All Schools. They played with great intensity and strong sportsmanship. With two strong wins and two losses in their pool, the girls played against some strong competition and never gave up. The Players Player was awarded to Shae Staples for her consistent encouragement and giving her all out on the field.

The 13 boys finished with 2 wins and one loss at the pool stage and advanced to the semi-final stage. They improved significantly from game to game and will only build on their performances for future games. Players Player award went to Seth Tomekovic.

15 Boys:
The boys finished equal second in their pool with 2 convincing wins and 2 losses. The boys attitude was fantastic and it was thrilling to see tries scored from our rehearsed set plays. The Players Player award was given to Nate Denduck who was outstanding with the ball, in defence and was a calming and positive presence within our team.

Open Mixed:
Both Open Mixed teams finished second in their pools with three wins and one loss each. They played a terrific brand of touch football and grew in confidence throughout the day. The Open Mixed Year 12 team made it to the semi-finals. Players Player awards were Jeremy Hinton for Year 11 and Bella Palmero for Year 12.
