XCC Students excel at the Wide Bay Readers Cup

On Thursday 19th June, four enthusiastic Xavier students competed against many other teams throughout our region at Tinana State School in Maryborough in the annual Readers Cup competition. This is event is organized by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. It was our third year in a row competing and our best result to date, taking second place in the Year 8/9 division.
Congratulations to Christina Baumann, Sabrina Zwanink, Connor Whelan and Kelsea Haupt for achieving a fantastic result. This competition requires students to read and have a considerable knowledge of a number of books. They have been preparing with Mrs. Hammond for over two months, dedicating many hours to reading and training in preparation for this event.
This year was especially significant as Jackie French (award winning author of over 140 published titles) ran the proceedings on the day and awarded our students their medals.
