 Xavier Day

The Middle and Senior School students participated in a range of activities this Xavier Day. In the morning the students engaged in various service activities such as planting trees, visiting nursing homes and making meals for the College’s Care and Concern Fridge. We then gathered in JPAC to see a theatrical presentation of the life of St Francis Xavier performed by Ms Lima’s 8.1 Religious Education class. This was followed by some time in our Pastoral Care classes to complete an Examen on the experiences of the day. The day was capped by our annual Karaoke competition which was highlighted by a fantastic rendition of the song, “We’re all in this together” from the movie High School Musical, sung by the entire Year 12 cohort. All in all it was an amazing day that embodied the spirit of our college patron, St Francis Xavier.

After celebrating Xavier Day last Wednesday with a P-12 Liturgy, Junior school children were given a guide through St. Francis Xavier’s life by Mr. Swann.  We then had a picnic lunch on the lawn and it was great to see so many Mums, Dads and Grandparents who were able to join us on such a beautiful morning.  The theme for our day was ‘Be one for others’ and activities of service were carried out by classes throughout the afternoon.  These included; weeding and planting gardens around their classroom, cleaning up around the College, baking goodies for our care and concern freezer, writing letters to the people of Vanuatu who were affected by cyclone Pam and making poppies to help others to remember ANZAC Day.  It was wonderful to see the children selflessly giving their time and efforts to truly ‘be one for others’.
