The 2011 camp
saw the Year 10’s of Xavier Catholic College roughing it at Glastonbury Creek
in an outdoor wilderness camp. It was with some trepidation the Year 10 staff
and students left Xavier for the annual camp with rain increasing the closer
they got to the camp site. Fortunately the weather cleared as the group arrived
at camp and remained so for the majority of the camp. The students began the camp with erecting
their own tent accommodation and a brief of how to use the Bush Camp showers.
The students completed a variety of activities over the three days of camp,
including mountain biking, canoeing, rock climbing, bush navigation and raft
building. The recent rain left many a student covered in mud from the day’s
activities, with bathing in the nearby creek the preferred option to the camp
showers provided.
Throughout the
camp the students showed high levels of responsibility and leadership,
demonstrating the developing maturity in these young adults. Overall the camp
has left the students with memories that will last them for many years.
